Lucky Bird Coaching

Curious about coaching?

This work can be mysterious if you have never heard of a coach who isn’t blowing a whistle at uniformed players out on a sports field. And just to make it more confusing, methodologies and titles vary greatly. Mindset Coach, Personal Development Coach, Life Coach, Wellness Coach. It can be hard to know what you are getting yourself into.

If you subscribe to my stories on elizabethheise.com, you know that I am trained in the Wayfinder Coaching method developed by Martha Beck.*

“Wayfinding” means you find your own way, following the innate knowledge you have always had inside you. It’s just a matter of gaining access to that knowledge. That is where I come in. This training equipped me with the tools to help you find your path not by receiving advice, but rather by tapping into your own intuition. With that, you will find peace in any situation, the ability to follow your true purpose and to create a life of fulfillment and vitality.

You might be wondering what the difference is between therapy and coaching. The best way I’ve heard it described is this: therapy is focused on uncovering and recovering from past trauma. Coaching is about discovering what we truly desire, what we dream about and finding some ways to get there. As someone who sat on a therapist’s couch for decades, I can tell you that this work is not easy but it is effective and FUN.

The need for this approach stems from the cultural conditioning to be someone other than who we truly are. Each of us has an Essential Self and a Social Self. Our Essential Self is the person we were at birth who hadn’t been conditioned to believe anything yet. Our Social Self is the box checker, the people pleaser, the one who worries about what Everybody Else Thinks, whether it’s our parents, our friends, or our community. That part of us who pursued goals because we thought we had to, not because we wanted to. The trouble is, over the course of time, not living authentically quiets your intuition and has you taking a poll for what you should do rather than simply checking in with yourself and getting your answers there. It may lead you to a life that just doesn’t feel right. That “is this all there is” feeling. Sometimes it can even make you physically sick. As adults, we can’t change the past but we can find our way back to our true selves. It begins with taking the first step.

Coaching can be just that.

This work will lift off the layers of societal expectation and reveal who you really are. You may recognize that person from way back when, before the culture told you to try your hardest to be someone else more acceptable. It can help you move in the direction that is right for you.

In each session, we partner together to work on a specific problem utilizing specific tools that engage the creativity, intuition and body wisdom to find the truth within. Sound like hocus pocus? I won’t lie, it does feel a bit like magic.

The challenge to this work is our cultural training that has programmed us all to worry about the future, regret the past, and spend as little time in the here and now as possible. We are lead to believe that to be good enough, we must conform to the expectations of others. This work will bring you back to yourself. By utilizing techniques to move beyond limited thinking and to identify and overcome what is holding you back, we clear the way.

*Martha Beck is a Harvard trained sociologist, world-renowned coach and New York Times bestselling author. She is best known as Oprah Winfrey’s Life Coach, which I consider the cherry on top of her credentials. Oprah says she is “one of the smartest women I know.” Martha really is quite brilliant. And VERY funny.  For over two decades, she has been, in the words of NPR, “the best-known life coach in America.” Her message combines science, spirituality and, best of all, humor. And she taught me everything I know about this work.

Reviews:

Elizabeth is a masterful coach who has helped me immensely on my healing journey. Using her tools and a bit of magic, she guides the transformation of my anxious rumination into calm clarity. Through her insightful questions, I have been able to find and re-integrate many lost pieces of my Essential Self. The result is that I move through my life with more joy and confidence, fully knowing that I hold the keys to my own happiness. -EK

I would put Elizabeth’s coaching in the life-changing category of things I’ve done for myself.  I’ve had years of therapy, but an hour with Elizabeth gives me more insights and ah-ha’s than I’ve ever had with therapists.  She has a no-nonsense way of asking me tough questions that get to the crux of the issue.  I’ve also learned tools from Elizabeth that help me work on my limiting beliefs and unhelpful thoughts even when I’m not being coached.  Highly recommend. -HC

Elizabeth is a fierce supporter for my highest good. She has walked with me through some tough emotions, sticky life patterns and has helped me see where I’d been giving up my power. I leave my sessions with her feeling lighter, clearer and find myself speaking up where I might usually have stayed quiet. Overall, I am beginning to trust myself more. And that is the greatest gift. 🤍 TK

I had the pleasure of being coached by Elizabeth. She is an incredibly good listener and she offered me tools on how to deal with situations that cause me stress and concern. Elizabeth is very knowledgeable and kind. Both are great qualities for an effective coach. I highly recommend her. -RW

I’ve followed Elizabeth’s weekly stories for well over a year. Her words always hit so close to home. It was like we had so many similar experiences in our childhood. When she started coaching, I signed up. She stepped into my life coach role as effortlessly as changing from her running shoes into the comfort of bare feet on a cool tile floor. I felt safe and supported and found myself with a new understanding of why I repeated the same behaviors all my life. Elizabeth helped me make these discoveries and offered alternative behaviors while giving me loving support. -DA
